Children, Educators, Supporters Explain the Difference We Make
Reading Readiness for ALL Children
MAKE
WAY FOR BOOKS
promotes early literacy in limited
resource areas of Tucson and southern Arizona by providing
young children an opportunity to fall in love with books and reading.
Our vision is that all children
will enter school with the necessary early literacy skills to
be successful. Each child, regardless of socioeconomic status,
race, or gender will have daily exposure to books and reading.
Early Literacy Resource Center
This website is an early
literacy resource center for adults who wish to
raise readers starting at birth. Early literacy is all of
the things children know about reading before they can actually
read.
A child's success
in school correlates with being read to regularly and having
books at home. It is one thing to teach a child to read, but
it is quite another to teach a child to love reading. A love
of books and reading provides the foundation for success
in school and in life.
The best thing parents can
do is not try to teach their children how to read at the youngest
age possible.
Instead, parents should engage their kids in enjoyable age-appropriate
activities that help to develop essential reading readiness
skills. This will not only provide a strong foundation for
formal reading instruction later on, but will also be more
likely to foster a life-long love of books in children.
